 The word Tantra is taken from Sanskrit, which is an Indo-European classical language dating back to 1500bc. Tantra translates into “continuation” or “weave”. Its doctrine is one of non-duality, seeking synthesis through the union of opposites. Transcendence out of polarity is the goal of Tantra.Tantra is an ancient, esoteric spiritual tradition, rooted in Hinduism and Buddhism. Typically Tantric practices used very little sexuality as a tool for growth and enlightenment, although sexual techniques and ritual was included in some of its doctrine. Recently, the West has adopted the sexual aspects of Tantra, and coined it Neo-tantra, using the principles with a slightly different use and intention. This is not to say a migration from the roots of Tantra is wrong or right, but it is important to cite. So with respect to the older traditions mentioned above, we will be using the word Tantra in the broadest sense here on this website. Healing ourselves through Energy Healing could not be taken seriously, if sexuality was excluded from the process of becoming whole. Needless to say, sexual energy holds enormous power and we should harness this force and use it in a positive way. Through the ages we have stigmatized, idealized, sold, manipulated, suppressed it, and cultures have used sex throughout the centuries as ethnic cleansing. The idea of using sexual energy to heal our body and soul, and achieve expanded states of consciousness can be both appealing and appalling, when we consider the huge amounts of guilt and restraint we impose on the issue of sexual pleasure. By exploring our individual distortions around sexuality, it is possible to release imbedded conditioning, emotional wounds and blocks, using simple techniques. Once we have purified our sexual energy, we have an incredible healing tool, which can keep us youthful and expand our ability for self love and love toward others. We can use this sexual energy to transport us into ecstatic union in our intimate relationships and the Divine. Terri works with women in a group context.
